Cactus and Succulent Potting Workshop

The Cactus and Succulent Potting Workshop is a three-part presentation on how to select, design, and assemble a beautiful table-top cactus and succulent container garden. Depending on questions and answers, the workshop usually runs about one and a half hours.

Part One of the Workshop is a Power Point Introduction to Cacti and Succulents, aka C&S. During this part of the program, attendees are introduced to the wonderful world of Cacti and Succulents, presented with design considerations, and instructed on how to assemble their own container gardens, appropriately sized for tabletop or windowsill use.

Part Two of the Workshop is a demonstration on how to actually assemble the C&S garden. The concept of a cactus and succulent garden is straight forward, but the actual assembly can be a bit complicated. And, in the case of cacti, even a bit intimidating! In this segment, attendees will be shown step-by-step how to get the best, most pleasing results from their potting experience. Carolyn will demonstrate how to design and pot succulents. Lau will do the same for cacti.

Part Three of the Workshop is the actual design and construction of individual C&S table-top gardens. Each participant will receive everything they need to assemble a beautiful container garden, with the instructors available to answer questions and help as needed with the potting.  At the end of the class, each participant will be bringing home their own tabletop garden, as well as printed instructions on proper cactus and succulent home care.

We will supply each attendee (limited to 20) with

  • A  C&S friendly, rectangular pot,
  • Three, 2-inch plants of their own choosing,
  • Pot screening,
  • Plant specific soil, top dressing, and assorted decorative “tchoskies”, and
  • Printed instructions on C&S proper care
